Welcome to Harbour House Inn
The Harbour House is an exquisite retreat destination ideally situated in the historic seaport of Brigus, Newfoundland. The area is best known as the birth place of famed arctic explorer Bob Bartlet and has long been recognized as the original ‘Gateway to the North’. Over the years many thousands of expeditions commenced from this naturally protected harbour and now we invite you to explore the many varied attractions which make the Harbour House your perfect base of escape.
The Harbour House is only 45 minutes from Newfoundland’s capital city of St. John’s and is the perfect destination for a Sunday afternoon drive or romantic overnight interlude. Meeting groups will appreciate an inspirational back drop of discovery and adventure. While experiential and educational groups will immerse themselves in the steeped history, community plays and the charm of the local people’s unique culture, wit and dialect. Dining at the Harbour House includes an array of taste sensations. Guests can avail of true traditional fare in the main dining area while pub grub is the stay on the patio. For the more discernible palate a host of dishes are available in the nunnery; each derived from the influences of the diets of our founding nations including Portuguese, Spanish, French, Irish, Dutch, English and the Scots.
The gardens surrounding the property reflect the pride and dedication of centuries old traditions. Brigus is especially well known for its aged, flat stoned walls and rock gardens. Vibrant colours can be experienced throughout every season from the perfectly manicured rose bushes to the wild flags and Newfoundland’s provincial flower – the pitcher plant. Berry pickers will delight in the multitude of wild fruits found throughout the hillsides. And there is no where to find an assembly of fall colours that blend in such perfect dimension.
